Berhampur, Nov 27 (LocalWire) Normal life in Kandhamal was affected by a cold wave sweeping the tribal dominated district with further dip in minimum temperature in several places.
District headquarters Phulbani witnessed its coldest morning on Tuesday when the mercury dropped to 7.8 degree Celsius, making it the coldest place of the state and also recording the season’s lowest minimum temperature in the town.
Hill town Daringibadi recorded minimum temperature at 8.2 degree Celsius, lower than the previous day.
Maximum temperature of Phulbani and Daringibadi was at 26.5 and 25 degree Celsius respectively, sources said.
People were seen lighting up bonfires at several places to keep themselves warm.
“As the cold wave continued till morning, most of the residents did not open the doors of their houses till 9.00 am,” said a local SK Patnaik.
Markets at Phulbani and Daringibadi closed early at 4 pm on Tuesday due to the cold wave.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), snowfall in Himanchal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir led to the sudden drop in temperature in several places of Odisha, including Kandhamal.
Night temperature is likely to go down further in the coming days, said IMD sources.
