Berhampur, November 28 (LocalWire): Passenger transport services continued to be paralysed for the third consecutive day on Thursday following the strike by private bus owners in Ganjam district.
The private bus owners have pulled out over 400 busses from operation to protest against the district administration’s directive to operate buses from the newly constructed Berhampur bus stand at Haladiapadar, about 12-km from here.
The district administration had asked all bus owners to operate from the new bus stand as the Berhampur Development Authority (BeDA) was renovating the existing city bus stand here at a cost of Rs 97 lakh and had shut the city bus stand for two months.
Even though the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation has pressed into service 11 additional buses to tide over the crisis, the situation is yet to be normalised, and many passengers were seen paying extra money for traveling by auto-rickshaw.
“If the situation does not improve, we will hire more buses from out of the district,” a senior officer of the district stated.
Meanwhile, Berhampur Development Authority vice-chairman Chakravarti Singh Rathore has appealed to the bus operators to operate their vehicles from Berhampur bus stand at Haladiapadar for the interest of the public, adding that the services from city bus stand would be resumed after two months.
