Puri, March 26 (LocalWire): A Congress delegation today submitted a memorandum to the Chief Electoral Officer seeking action against BJP leader Sambit Patra for violating the model code of conduct by holding the replica of Lord Jagannath during an election rally.
‘It has been mentioned by the Election Commission of India that elections cannot be fought on the basis of religion and culture and the BJP candidate for Puri Parliamentary constituency was seen holding the replica of Lord Jagannath. He also used the photograph in his social media account.
It is a clear violation of the model code of conduct,’ said Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson, Nishikanta Mishra.
The photograph of the BJP leader with the replica of the idol has gone viral in social media drawing severe criticism from the people of Odisha. Patra, however, was not available for his comment on the issue.
