Berhampur, July 28 (LocalWire): The drains in the bypass road of Meenakshi Nagara under Ward no 14 of Berhampur Municipal Corporation were clogged with the cement plates and sand bags of constriction sites, preventing free flow of sewerage.
People of the area complained that the stagnant sewer water was the breeding ground of mosquitoes and feared an outbreak of mosquito-borne diseases.
The situation also aggravated due to rains.
The local residents alleged the blockage by the debris from the construction
site was not cleared neither by the BeMC nor the contractor.
Though the residents had earlier complained to the BeMC, it fell on deaf ears.
‘Our civic body turns a blind eye and is not taking our complaints seriously.
They have not tried to resolve the issue even though our health and sanitation is at risk,’ said a senior citizen from the locality.
The residents have appealed to the civic body authorities to clean the area before they fall victims to diseases like dengue, malaria and other filarial diseases.
BeMC Commissioner Chakravati Singh Rathore assured to clean the area and to ensure free flow of sewerage water.
