Baripada, May 10 (LocalWire): The construction work of the three Ratha Yatra chariots commenced on Sunday at Baripada which is considered as second Srikhetra, an official said.
The festival here has been observed since the completion of the Haribaldevjew temple in 1575 AD by Maharaja Baidyanath Bhanja.
The Ratha Yatra is scheduled for the 23rd of June.
When the lockdown got extended, the construction work of the chariots got halted.
The rituals such as Ashok Jhari and Jaka Lagi have been performed inside the temple premises due to the lockdown.
A meeting comprising the sub-Collector and officials of endowment department, servitors, and Moharanas (carpenters) was held to discuss the progress made on the chariots’ construction.
The construction work has been allowed under two conditions.
“The Moharanas are required to cover their heads and faces in order to prevent infection” an organiser said
They will not be allowed to return home until the completion of the work in order to avoid contact with their family.
They shall temporarily stay in a house at the Grand Road that will be arranged by the department,” he said.
“The Moharanas shall bear food expenses from their own pockets initially until the department comes to a decision on it.
The department also encourages the Moharanas to expedite the work by serving extra hours,” he added.
