Bhubaneswar, June 14 (LocalWire): Several people working in the sector of blood donation claim that blood donations in the state has been hit by the current Coronavirus crisis.
Doctors on World Blood Donors Day (today) claimed that many people also desisted from blood donations due to myths associated with Coronavirus spread.
“Blood donations have been hit due to Coronavirus issues.
Many people think that their exposure to blood donations can lead to Coronavirus infection which is a myth,” said Dr Chandrika Prasad Das, Medical Officer, Central Red Cross Blood Bank, Cuttak.
He opined that the recent lockdown curbs and the Coronavirus crisis also discouraged many to venture out and take part in blood donation camps.
He also said that in normal times also the state gets lesser blood donations compared to the target and requirement.
“Most of the blood donations are done at hospitals by relatives and friends when a patient needs blood for surgery or illness.
We get less voluntary blood donations,” he added.
Dr Das appealed to the people to donate blood voluntarily regularly and said that there is no harmful impact of the noble gesture on the health of a body.
