Bhubaneswar, January 27 (LocalWire) Taken as a precautionary measure against the backdrop of the ‘novel Coronavirus’ Odisha has opened special wards at its key hospitals, an official said on Monday.
The government has opened the special wards at Sriram Chandra Bhanj Medical College & Hospital at Cuttack, VSS Medical College and Hospital at Burla, and at the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Keeping in mind a few suspected Coronavirus cases in the country, although no case has been reported in the state so far, the SCB authorities have opened a 40-bed special Coronavirus ward equipped with eight special intensive care units (ICUs).
The health authorities have also issued 24×7 toll-free numbers to track any suspected cases of the virus. The numbers are- 943994857 and 0674-2390467.
The authorities have also started the screening of passengers having possible symptoms at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar and Veer Surendra Sai Airport at Jharsuguda.
Similar kinds of screenings are also being carried out at the railway stations.
The first case of the Coronavirus was reported in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.
The virus, with its pneumonia-like symptoms of fever, cough, and difficulty in breathing has killed dozens of people and infected over thousands in 15 countries so far.
