Bhubaneswar, Jan 29 (LocalWire): Center has directed the Biju Patnaik International Airport authorities to avail a thermal screening facility at the airport in the wake of the novel Coronavirus an official said on Wednesday.
On 27th Jan, the state government urged the Centre to reinforce a screening facility for nCoV at the BPI Airport as a precautionary measure against the spread of the virus.
BPIA has direct flights in connectivity with Malaysia and other foreign countries where positive cases of Coronavirus have been detected.
A facility of thermally screening the passengers for possible symptoms of the deadly nCoV has been extended to 20 other airports.
At present, the screening is being done at the airports in cities like New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, Coimbatore, Guwahati, Gaya, Bagdogra, Jaipur, Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram, Trichi, Vizag, Goa, and Barani.
Around 35,000 passengers have been screened at these airports so far. A total of 20 samples of suspects have been tested and all the results have been negative till now, an official source informed LocalWire.
Amidst increasing global concerns over the Coronavirus, the state government has advised people not to panic.
Meanwhile, the government has also asked significant hotels to ensure that the tourists from China should give self-declaration concerning the virus.
Special wards have been opened up at the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, the SCB hospital in Cuttack, the VIMSAR Burla, and the District Headquarters Hospital in Jharsuguda.
