Bhubaneswar, Jan 29 (LocalWire) The ‘novel Coronavirus’ with its pneumonia-like symptoms of fever, cough, and difficulty in breathing, has killed many and infected thousands in around 15 countries.
Amidst increasing global concerns over the Coronavirus, the Prime Minister’s Office has issued advisory to all states.
Following the same, Odisha has taken several precautionary measures.
Three people have reported Coronavirus symptoms in Malaysia, and Odisha has a direct flight from Malaysia.
“So, we are conducting a precautionary screening of passengers at the BPI Airport.” state health secretary Nikunja Bihari Dhal said.
Dr. CBK Mohanty, Director of Directorate of Medical Education; Training (DMET), Odisha said Coronavirus is a type of virus with symptoms much like common cough and cold which affects the respiratory system.
These symptoms can also lead to severe diseases like pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome, he pointed out.
The Coronavirus causes cold, coughing, sneezing in its first week. Then, the infection spreads towards the lower respiratory tract and leads to pneumonia.
The virus can spread by touching an infected person’s hand or face.
He advised staying at a distance from the patient you are suspecting Coronavirus. He also told the patients to use alcohol-based sanitizers and clean hands frequently.
This virus can easily spread within a radius of 3-4 kms. Someone affected with this deadly virus should avoid visiting public places.
While coughing or sneezing, the patient should ensure that he/she covers their mouth with a tissue and discards the tissue immediately.
This type of virus has also been observed in the years 2002 and 2012.
