Phulbani, October 1 (LocalWire): The district and sessions court on Tuesday set aside the election of Subhentri Pradhan as the chairperson of Daringibadi Panchayat Samiti in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.
Pradhan’s election to the post was nullified on the grounds of violating the two-child norms.
The court gave its decision on the petition by a candidate who had lost the polls and had filed a case challenging the election of Pradhan.
The petitioner had sought her disqualification on the basis of Section 11 of the Odisha Gram Panchayat Act that bars a person having more than two children from contesting in Panchayat elections.
After examining the evidence, the court set aside the election of Pradhan as she was a mother of three children.
