Kendrapara, February 20 (LocalWire) The Kendrapara civil court has set aside the election of Badakula Gram Panchayat sarapanch Akshya Kumar Lenka on Friday for violating “two child norm” during polls in 2017.
Lenka was elected sarapanch after defeating Nihar Ranjan Das, who had strongly opposed his nomination for violating rules.
The election officer, though, rejected his plea, and declared Lenka’s nomination valid.
Nihar than filed a case in the civil court against the decision. According to Section 11 of Odisha Gram Panchayat Act, a person having more than two children is not entitled to contest in the panchayat election.
Judge Sonal Sharma after examining the evidence has set aside the election of Lenka as sarapanch.
