Baripada, July 17 (LocalWire): A family in Radhanagar village in Mayurbhanj was ostracized by villagers after a pregnant woman from the family tested COVID positive.
The family is being ostracized by villagers even though the infected woman was cured in a COVID care hospital.
According to sources, the woman got infected after coming in contact with a positive person. She was admitted to the COVID care hospital at Bankisole on July 5.
Discharged from the hospital on July 14, the villagers ostracized the woman and her family as she had not remained in the hospital for 14 days.
Daily labourers from Radhanagar who went to neighbouring villages looking for jobs were denied due to COVID stigma, as a positive case had been discovered in their village.
The victim’s family is not getting any co-operation from villagers due to this reason.
Later the villages brought the matter before the local administration and the police as they had been denied daily work from neighbouring villages.
Bisoi OIC Phanindra Bhusan Nayak, Tehsildar Chandrasekhar Ghadei, and BDO Mahammad Firoz Khan had rushed to Radhanagar village and later met people of neighbouring villages and convinced them that the woman was completely cured of the infection and asymptomatic.
