Berhampur, May 13 (LocalWire): A 32-year old woman in Ganjam district who had tested COVID-19 positive delivered twin babies-a boy and a girl at the government-run MKCG Medical College and Hospital here on Wednesday.
While the boy died due to low-weight after some hours of the delivery, the condition of both mother and her baby daughter is good, medical sources said.
The woman who was identified as a Surat returnee, had a pre-mature delivery (around two months ahead of her term), said the superintendent of the medical college and hospital S K Mishra.
She had a normal delivery. After delivery, the woman and her baby were kept in a separate ward – away from other patients, he said.
Since the woman was COVID-19 positive, she would be shifted to the COVID hospital at Sitalapalli for treatment, while her baby will be kept away from her until she is tested for COVID-19.
The COVID-19 test of the baby would be done after about a week, said Mishra.
The woman was admitted at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here on May 9 after she along with her husband returned from Surat.
She was shifted to COVID ward on May 10 when she tested positive for COVID-19, sources said.
She was again shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here in the morning, when the labour pain developed.
As there were no facilities for the delivery of a patient in the COVID Hospital, the woman was shifted to the medical college and hospital, who gave birth the twin child normally, he said.
