Berhampur, August 31 (LocalWire): After COVID Bandhu, Ganjam district administration has decided to engage the “COVID Sathi” scheme at the village level.
The COVID Sathi will be a member of the woman self-help group (WSHG) and will take care of the health problems of other members of the WSHG in the district.
While the COVID Bandhus are people who have defeated the disease and their role is to remove the fear from the mind of the symptomatic people, the COVID Sathi will act like a coordinator between the people and health officials and her role would be to educate the other members of the group by holding regular meetings and screening their health status.
The district has a total of 41,309 women self-help groups with the number of members being over 4.30 lakh, official sources said.
The drive for selection of the COVID Sathi will be launched from Tuesday in the district and at least one member will be a COVID Sathi in every group.
They will be trained to take care of the health of the other women members and to ensure cent percent COVID test of the pregnant women in the area for their easy deliveries, said Ganjam collector Vijay Amruta Kulange.
With the initiative of the tehsildar of Kukudakhndi, almost all the pregnant women (over 400) in the block had been tested for COVID-19 recently in which 8 were found to be positive.
The Collector said that the engagement of the COVID Sathi was a part of the “Aam Swasthya Aam Daitwya” (our health, our responsibility) – a massive awareness programme initiated by the district administration regarding the novel coronavirus in the month of May, when the Covid-19 situation in the district was grim.
