Berhampur, Dec 12 (LocalWire) The Ganjam district unit of Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI-M] on Wednesday staged a protest in front of the corporate office of Southco power distribution company for unscheduled power cuts for at least two hours daily in Berhampur.
“Every morning and evening we are having daily power cuts since the last few days. Odisha is a power surplus state, there is no justification of any power cut,” said CPI-M leader Yudhistira Behera.
Even in rural areas, there are reportedly power cuts for over two hours daily.
“Students are being the worst sufferers ahead of their examinations due to this daily power cut,” he said.
Official sources said the power cut is due to restriction of supply by the Grid Corporation (Gridco).
Though the exact cause of the restriction of supply is not known, a senior engineer of Southco said, the generation of power was reduced due to shortage of coal in thermal plants.
General Manager (Rural) of Southco Lenka Prasad said, “It is a temporary phenomena. This will be sorted out soon.”
