Cuttack, April 1 (LocalWire): To assist investigating officers handle important cases, the crime branch opened a crime analysis wing at the police headquarters here today, on the occasion of 84th foundation day of state police.
The wing will have forensic, cyber and legal experts to improve the standard of investigation and conviction of important cases.
Police officials said the wing will guide the IOs through an audio visual platform. ‘The crime branch monitors important cases on a daily basis.
Earlier the IOs used to send us letters for official communication and guidance which used to take months. But with this wing, a panel of experts will guide them in preparing the plan of investigation. Subsequently, the panel will review the investigation process through the similar platform,’ said IG, crime branch, Arun Bothra.
Police said the wing will also help in increasing the conviction rate. As per the statistics of the National Crimes Records Bureau (NCRB), the conviction rate in Odisha stood at 12.8 percent for the year 2016.
While as many as 12,506 people were convicted in the state for various crimes under IPC and special and local laws, as many as 84,492 people were acquitted.
