Rourkela, Nov 2 (LocalWire) A Crime Branch team from Cuttack today carried out investigation into alleged illegal mining activities at Muchukuda near Bisra in Sundargarh district.
The inquiry was being conducted on the basis of a complaint filed by the local tehsildar, sources said.
However, deputy superintendent of police D.K.Mishra said that they have no information about any such inquiry.
Sources said that the mining activity in the area was being carried out by a person who was given lease 10 years back. It came to light in March this year when he sought renewal of his lease. Smelling foul play, the local tehsildar had written to the crime branch for inquiry into the matter.
Meanwhile, the Range Officer, Birsa, M Hansda, who joined his duty only last month said that he would conduct inquiry and do mapping of the area to know the fact.
However, no one was immediately available to officially give details about the investigation.
