Berhampur, Dec 21 (LocalWire) A thirty-year old criminal, allegedly involved in at least 20 different cases, was arrested by the police following an exchange of fire at Changudidei hill near Derandi under Ganjam district’s Digapahandi police station limits, about 40-km from here, on Friday morning.
Sustaining bullet injuries in left leg, accused Jaya Pradhan of Bomakei under K.Nuagaon police station limits, was admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here. His condition is stated to be stable, medical sources said.
Police seized a motorbike, a country-made pistol, a life bomb, three fired catridges and remnants of exploded bombs from the spot, said Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) (Berhampur) Shantanu Kumar Das.
One of his accomplices, however, managed to escape from the spot, he said.
At least three police personnel, including Digapahandi police inspector-in charge Debasish Mohanty sustained injuries when the accused allegedly hurled bombs at them while trying to escape from the spot, Das said
Police said the accused was involved at least 20 different cases, including attempt to murder, robbery and NDPS cases in Berhampur Sadara, Bada Bazara in Ganjam district and Jatnai in Khurda district.
‘We are verifying his criminal records in other police stations in the districts,” said the ASP.
