Berhampur, August 5 (LocalWire): The police have arrested a 28-year old man, wanted in over 13 different cases, including a murder early morning on Monday after an exchange of the fire at Charimaili Chhaka under Aska police station limits of Ganjam district.
The accused, identified as Guru Prasad Swain of Gangapur village under Badagada police station limits was going on a motorcycle along with his associate when the police tried to apprehend him.
On seeing the police vehicle, the duo tried to escape by hurling bombs on them. The police retaliated by opening fire, during which the accused Swain sustained injured in his left leg.
He has been admitted in MKCG Medical College and Hospital here for treatment.
His accomplice, however, managed to escape from the spot, Aska sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Suryamani Pradhan informed.
The police have recovered a pistol, two live ammunition from his possession and also seized the motorcycle the two were using.
“Two police persons injured in the bomb explosion are undergoing treatment at Aska hospital,” Pradhan said, adding that Swain was involved in at least 13 cases, including the murder of Sanyashi Bisoi at Badagada last year.
“We are verifying his other cases,” the SDPO stated.
