Berhampur, June 15 (LocalWire): A history-sheeter was seriously injured when a bomb that he was carrying went off at Chanchadapalli, under Ganjam district’s Digapahandi police station limits, about 10 kilometres from here on Friday night.
Police said Shyam Sundar Patra alias Cheru has 15 different cases pending against him in various police stations in the district.
He was arrested in 2016 but recently released on bail.
Sub-divisional Police Officer, Chikiti, SN Murmu, said the accused had a heated exchange with the Sarpanch of Banthapalli gram panchayat Prasant Kumar Swain and decided to kill him.
But the bomb accidentally went off in his hands, injuring him seriously while Swain escaped unhurt.
Patra has been admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.
A case has been registered at Digaphandi police station by the sarpanch, said additional SP (Berhampur) Prabhat Chandra Routray.
A police team is on the lookout of Patra’s associates who were with him when the bomb exploded.
