Curfew was imposed in Kendrapara town on Thursday after escalation of tension over clash between two communities at some places.
Members of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) backed Rastriya Surakhya Samiti, Bajarang Dal and Viswa Hindu Parisada (VHP) called for a bandh at Kendrapara on Thursday to protest against the decision of the district administration to prevent them from organizing a meeting on Wednesday.
The activists intended to organize the event on the birth anniversaries of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Veer Surendra Sai. Several minority community members opposed the meeting scheduled to be held on the playground of Kendrapara High School.
The situation worsened on Thursday when members of both communities clashed at Garapur, Kapaleswar and Ranapada when large numbers of supporters of RSS and VHP were marching in a procession.
