Bhubaneswar, Dec 17 (LocalWire) Cyclone Phethai is all set to make landfall at Kakinada coast of Andhra Pradesh on Monday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the Severe Cyclonic Storm (SCS) over westcentral and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal moved northwards with a speed of 23 kmph during past six hours.
“The SCS ‘PHETHAI’ over Bay of Bengal moved northwards, weakened slightly and lay centred at 0530 hrs IST of 17th December, 2018 near lat 15.2°N and long 82.2°E.
It is very likely to move nearly northwards and cross Andhra Pradesh coast around Kakinada during 17th December,” the IMD tweeted.
However, due to unfavourable environmental conditions, it is likely to weaken before landfall and cross coast as a cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 70-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph.
Meanwhile, in neighbouring Odisha, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi alerted all district collectors over the impending cyclonic storm.
The weather department had already advised fishermen not to venture into the Bay of Bengal.
