Bhubaneswar, Nov 23 (LocalWire) The Odisha government has praised volunteers from Gajapati and Ganjam districts for their contribution towards relief and rescue operations during “very severe” Cyclone Titli and subsequent flood.
The volunteers visited the Office of Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) and Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) Thursday evening.
SRC and OSDMA Managing Director Bishnupada Sethi appreciated the commendable job done by the volunteers in extending a helping hand to district administrations during the natural disaster.
“Although they hail from different fields, the volunteers helped the cyclone and flood affected population of Gajapati and Ganjam districts in evacuation, road clearance, distribution of relief materials, shifting pregnant women to hospitals and lactating mothers to ‘Maa Gruha’, distribution of dry foods and cooked foods to the people sheltered at different shelters, supplying safe drinking water and evacuating the marooned people to safer places,” said Sethi.
While interacting with the officials OSDMA and Office of SRC, the volunteers shared their experience and ordeal in face of adversities.
The volunteers also appreciated the prompt and quick action taken by the Odisha government and district administration of Gajapati and Ganjam in managing the cyclone and subsequent flood.
