Berhampur, July 24 (LocalWire): As part of various events to commemorate the 20th anniversary of ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’, a ‘Cyclothon’ was flagged-off by the station Commander of INS Chilka, Commodore Rituraj Sahu today.
Over 200 participants, including officers, sailors, defence civilians and families took part in the event.
The Cyclothon, which started from INS Chilka, ended at Balugaon College grounds, covering a distance of nearly 30 kms.
The cyclists visited the Nehru Seva Sangh orphanage at Banapur en-route and motivated the children to consider joining the Armed Forces.
Besides inspirational talks, information booklets and pamphlets were also distributed.
During the event, personnel from INS Chilka visited Balugaon village and spoke to the fishermen community about maritime safety and coastal security.
Part of community interaction programme (CIP), this event was attended by 500 people.
‘The aim of this interaction was to sensitize the fishing community about the fragile security environment and to integrate them into the overall gamut of coastal security mechanism.
The fishermen were apprised about their ‘vital role’ as the ‘eyes and ears of coastal security,’ said a release by INS Chilka.
