Jagatsinghpur, March 10 (LocalWire): Several Dalit families from Repurpatana village here, overcame threats from upper caste villagers and appealed to the Human Rights Commission seeking justice since the police are silent spectators.
Dalit leader Bhanj Kishore Sethy alleged, ‘Upper caste people restricted us from entering the Mukteshwar temple and offer puja since the temple is out of bounds for scheduled caste and untouchables. Our women objected to the decision but were forcibly driven away by the villagers.’
Two hundred people from 22 Dalit families protested the restriction on them to use water, fire and other essential commodities from shops. They lodged an FIR in Tirtol police station on 13February but the police did not register a case.
On the other hand, working president of Phule Ambedkar Bikash Parishad Manoja Patra and other activists sought the intervention collector, SP, Human Rights Commission and other higher authorities of SC and ST department to give them justice.
