Bhubaneswar, April 4(LocalWire): The state government took cognisance of a police complaint filed on Wednesday and cancelled a book reading session by author William Dalrymple at Mukteshwar temple.
The event was to be hosted by the state tourism department.
Dalrymple, the tourism department’s guest from 5-8 April was supposed to read from his book ‘Nine Lives: In search of the sacred in modern India’ on Friday at the temple.
The book explores religious traditions of India through the lives of nine characters.
The complainant Anil Dhir, affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh claimed it would hurt Hindus and stated that ‘Mukteswar is a living temple where ritualistic worship is conducted every day.’
