Cuttack, March 1 (LocalWire) A day-long discussion on how to make cities safe for children was organized by a local NGO at Kathajodi Vihar on Friday.
The program was organized by the Centre for Child and women Development (CCWD) with support from the National Foundation for India.
Sandhyarani Bastia, a student of class 6 from Munda Sahi slum who participated in the discussion said, “I very unhappy because there’s no playground and anganawadi centers in the slums.”
Bimala Rana, secretary of Kathajodi Vihar Unayan Parisad said, “First we have to stop child marriage, child labour and abuse, then we can able to create a safe child-friendly city.”
Ex -corporator Supriya Rout and social activists Chapala Pattanayak and Dharmesh Nayak stressed on education to uplift children from urban poverty.
The aim of the consultation was to identify the issues and challenges affecting the wellbeing of children in urban areas, and engage the community members and stakeholders to develop a roadmap for a child-friendly city, CCWD secretary Sadasiv Swain said.
