Berhampur, Oct 13 (LocalWire): A 55-year-old man presumed dead by family members woke up alive while being carried to the cremation ground where his last rites was going to be performed at Kapakhalla village under Ganjam district today.
Villagers rushed Simanach Mallick to the nearby community health centre in Sorada where his condition was stated to be stable after initial treatment.
Mallick had gone to the jungle to graze his cattle on Saturday but did not return in the evening although the animals returned.
Villagers rushed to the jungle in search of him but he was untraceable. In the morning, some people found him lying unconscious and took him home.
Family members and villagers assumed him to be dead and made all preparations for his last rites.
On the way to the cremation ground, Mallick started nodding his head, leaving the pallbearers surprised and scared.
After a few minutes, he sat up wide awake. Scared, the pallbearers fled the scene.
‘We rushed him to nearby Sorada hospital where he recuperated, said former sarapanch of Palakatu panchayat Ranjan Mallick.
‘Mallick was suffering from high feaver and weakness.
That’s why he remained unconscious. His condition improved after he was administered saline and he walked back home,’ said a doctor who treated him.
