Bhubaneswar, July 24 (LocalWire): The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the deadline for filing of Income Tax Returns (ITR) for assessment year 2019-20.
According to the announcement made on Tuesday, the deadline of filing ITR has been extended for a month, from 31 July to 31 August for certain category of taxpayers.
The extension of the deadline for the filing of tax return comes in the wake of an appeal from a cross-section of taxpayers since issuance of tax deducted at source (TDS) statement for 2018-19 fiscal was delayed.
The Income Tax department had last month extended the deadline for employers to issue Form 16 TDS certificate for financial year 2018-19 of its employees by 25 days till July 10, which left the salaried taxpayers with a limited time-frame of just 20 days to file their income tax returns.
The extension is applicable to all assessees other than corporate taxpayers and a few non-corporate entities .
