Balasore, April 13 (LocalWire): A large number of devotees thronged the Chandaneswar Temple in Balasore district today to take part in Chadak Mela.
As per tradition, the 13-day mela is observed in two phases: ‘Nila Parva’ is held to celebrate the marriage of Lord Chandaneswar and Kamini and on ‘Pata Parva’ devotees get their skin, tongue, and body pierced with nails.
People gather at the temple to witness the ritual.
Special arrangements have been made for crowd management.
Additional police personnel have been deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
Three medical camps were also set up for health emergencies.
In 2012, at least 40 people were seriously injured in a clash between police and devotees during the ceremonial a procession.
