Puri, July 2 (LocalWire): Thousands of devotees thronged the Srimandir today to get the first glimpse of the deities during Nabajouban besha after the anasara period of 14 days (when the deities suffered from cold after the snana yatra).
Lord Jagannath and his sibling’s Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra will appear before the devotees today after the special cure.
Nabajouban Darshan is the special ritual as well as the last phase of preparing the deities before Gundicha Yatra (trip to aunt’s house).
The general darshan for devotees is restricted till 2.30pm in Srimandir for the special Banaka Lagi rituals of Nabajouban Darshan ahead of Rath Yatra on 4 July.
During these special rituals, the servitors Datta Mohapatra will perform makeup (shringar) of the trinity with the secret Banaka lagi ritual (Bana means forest and lagi means to apply).
After this traditional shringar, the deities will be decorated and placed on Ratna Singhasan (the jewel throne). The devotees who have bought tickets will be allowed to enter from 2.30 pm to 3.30pm and later the free public darshan will begin from 3.30 pm till 4.30pm.
Elaborate arrangements have been made by the district police for the smooth conduct of the special rituals.
