Berhampur, July 21 (LocalWire): The divisional forest officer (DFO) Berhampur was arrested by the vigilance sleuths today on charges of amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.
He was remanded to judicial custody till 3 August.
The anti corruption agency simultaneously searched Ashish Kumar Behera’s residence at Raghunathpur, Bhubaneswar, office chamber at Berhampur, government quarter at Berhampur, house at native village, Bhanjanagar, house of relatives at Ambapua, Berhampur, residential house of his associate at Jyotinagar, Berhampur, his office room at Digapahandi, Ganjam, residential house of his associate at Shantinagar street, Berhampur and his office room at Khallikote on 19 and 20 July to unearth his properties.
They found movable and immovable assets worth over Rs 2.19 crore and properties over 1.60 crore were disproportionate to the DFO’s actual income.
Behera’s total assets include a flat at Bhubaneswar (Rs 63.67 lakh), four plots in Bhubaneswar, Berhampur and Bhanjanagar (Rs 68.50 lakh), insurance polices (Rs 45.44 lakh), deposits in banks and post offices (Rs 9.35 lakh), a car (Rs 6.50 lakh), a scooty (Rs 50,000), gold and silver ornaments (Rs 12.98 lakh), household articles
(Rs 11.59 lakh) and Rs 82,000 cash in hand.
As Behera could not account for satisfactorily the possession of huge disproportionate assets, vigilance cell registered against him and his spouse U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 for detailed investigation.
He was later arrested and forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.
