Bhubaneswar, August 17 (LocalWire) Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday conducted an aerial survey of flood flood affected areas of south wester Odisha.
“Along with Kalahandi MP @basantpandabjp, Balangir MP @sksingh_deo conducted an aerial survey of the flood affected areas of Kalahandi, Boudh, Subarnapur and Balangir district in Odisha,” said Pradhan in a tweet.
Heavy rainfalls, induced by low pressure and supported by an active monsoon, deluged several areas in these districts earlier this week, causing flood situation which is still prevailing.
Though halting of rainfall has eased concerns of major flood, several acres of farm fields, many households still remain under water while key roads connectivity has not been restored in parts of the affected areas as repair work is still under progress.
Worst-hit Bolangir, which received a record 555 mm rainfall in a single day in its main town, is yet to recover from the situation. People from vulnerable areas are still staying in 56 camps created in the district for evacuation purpose earlier this week, according to state Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) office.
The state revenue and disaster management minister Sudam Marandi on Saturday instructed flood-affected district collectors to ensure smooth relief operation and take steps for restoration and damage repair work.
