Bhawanipatna, Jan 10 (LocalWire) At least 39 people have been admitted to different hospitals in the last one week followed by diarrhea outbreak at Baladhiamala village in Kalahandi district, said officials.
According to sources, the patients were initially taken to the village Community Health Centre (CHC), before shifting them to the district headquarters hospital.
Nine of them were again shifted to Junagarh hospital after their condition deteriorated.
Locals alleged the drinking water supplied to the village is contaminated leading to the outbreak of diarrhea.
“The administration has stopped supply water provision to the village after it was found contaminated. Authorities have given us tablets. We are now adding that to water before drinking it,” said villager Asha Sahoo.
Meanwhile, Assistant District Medical Officer (ADMO) Ashok Das said preliminary examination report revealed the disease was spread by bacteria E. Coli.
“We have sent water samples to Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) department for testing. We will step steps after getting the report,” said Das.
