Baripada, June 14 (LocalWire): The district administration of Mayurbhanj has not made any strategy about the pulling of the Rathas even as the Rath Yatra is only 9 days away at Dwitiya Srikhetra in Baripada here.
The Odisha High Court had earlier suggested the use of elephants or machines for pulling the Rath instead of devotees.
Rath Moharana (chief carpenter) Mrutyunjay Mohapata said that the construction of the three chariots had been halted for a month with just the wheels being fitted to the axles during Akshaya Tritiya.
The construction began again when the endowment department, the authority of the Haribaldevejew temple had set conditions for the carpenters to use masks and maintain social distancing.
“We have been forced to provide extra hours of work for the construction of chariots with the help of 33 carpenters.
The construction work of the chariots had been delayed for some days, despite availing of carpenters as we had to manage old and used logs for the concerned department did not provide logs in due time,” said the Rath Moharana.
The carpenters are busy making Parsha Devata and some are now busy giving final touches to the chariots, while the department has not given a final decision as to whether the car festival will be observed or not, he said.
When contacted, Collector Vineet Bhardwaj said the necessary rituals and other formalities are procedurally going on till date.
As per the directive of the government, the district administration will take the steps for the Rath Yatra, he further added.
