Paradip, July 1 (LocalWire): An unemployed youth and his wife today allegedly fell at the feet of a site in-charge of a contract agency of Paradip Refinery requesting for a job.
Sources said that one Suresh Tarai of Biswali village in Paradip had been working as a contractual worker in Paradip Refinery, under the agency named Jay Sairam Pvt Ltd.
The agency had allegedly assured Tarai of a permanent job in IOCL. The site in-charge Satyendra Kumar Singh had also allegedly taken Rs 1.50 lakh from Tarai by making him the promise.
However, due to the influence of the local trade union, the contract agency retrenched the jobs of 5-10 contractual workers and gave the same jobs to new workers.
Interestingly, Tarai, who had been employed due to the influence of a senior officer of Paradip Refinery, lost his job because he did not have trade union support.
Last week, Tarai and his wife Pinu requested Singh to return the Rs 1.50 lakh rupees they had paid for a permanent job. At this, the fumed contractor assaulted the couple and gave threats, after which the victim’s wife lodged an FIR in Paradip Lock police station.
Meanwhile, the aggrieved couple has sought the intervention of the ADM of Paradip, Kanhu Charan Dhir and the IIC of Paradip Lock police station, Pravash Sahoo, in order to get either the job or the money back.
Being harried, the couple today fell at the feet of Singh, requesting either a job or the money as otherwise; they would be unable to meet the needs of their 6-membered family.
The IIC of Paradip Lock police station Pravash Sahoo said, “Police have registered a case against the site in-charge,”
During the investigation, it was found that there is no documentation about the money being exchanged. However, his colleagues and relatives have confessed about the payment of this amount to Singh for said purpose,” he added.
