Bhubaneswar, September 17 (LocalWire): A video of a doctor carrying a sick boy using a sling on his shoulder has gone viral with the netizens showering praise on the social media on the exemplary show of dutifulness by a professional.
The video shows Dr Shakti Prasad Mishra carrying an orphan boy across a five-kilometer inhospitable hilly tract so that he could be admitted to the hospital on time.
According to available information, on receiving an SOS, Dr Mishra had rushed to Nuagada village under Badadural gram panchayat Khairiput block in Malkangiri district with a mobile unit for the treatment of Kumulu Kirsani.
However, the ambulance had to be stopped nearly five kilometers away because the road connecting the village was treacherous and not motorable.
Mishra flanked by the ambulance driver trekked all the way to the village and found the boy down with very high temperature, requiring urgent hospitalisation, and hence decided to carry him on his shoulder with the support of a sling all the way till the ambulance.
The boy who was shifted to Malkangiri district headquarters hospital under Mishra’s care is stated to be recovering, official sources said.
Commending Mishra for his dedication and service Malkangiri district collector Manish Agarwal said that it was heartening to find the doctor rushing to a remote village to attend to a patient.
“His act of carrying the patient on a sling displays the humanitarian traits of his character.
The district administration has decided to felicitate the doctor and the ambulance driver for this,” he said.
