Berhampur: Jan 19 (LocalWire) Dense fog coupled with the high-tidal wave in the sea forced wildlife officials to postpone the dolphin count exercise off Ganjam coast to Monday.
The enumerators started their work at 6 am on Sunday but could not venture into the sea due to low visibility, divisional forest officer, Berhampur Amlan Nayak told LocalWire.
The four sectors where the census exercise will be carried out are Prayagi to Purunabandh, Purunabandh to Gopalpur, Gopalpur to Markandi and Markandi to Patisunapur.
At least five persons have been engaged in each sector to count dolphins with the help of binoculars.
The division however had successfully conducted the pre-survey of dolphin in the coastal area on January 9, where they had sighted the congregation of several different species.
‘We have seen the bottlenose and humpback species of the dolphins, about three to five-km away from the coast” a forest range officer said.
The enumerators had sighted 15 humpback and 14 bottlenose dolphins last year off Ganjam coast.
