Bhubaneswar, Sept 25 (LocalWire): A group of traditional marine fishermen have raked in the moolah laughing all the way to the bank after netting a prized-catch off the Dhamra coast in Bhadrak district.
A rare fish netted by them weighed 107 kilograms and fetched a whopping Rs 7.5 lakh at one go.
The gigantic fish locally called ‘Sagar don’ is much sought-after for its medicinal value. It is also called ‘ghol’ fish. Its skin and bladder are exported to pharmaceutical manufacturing companies. It has immense export value, according to a marine fisheries officer, Bharat Bhusan Sahu.
A Chennai-based fish export firm purchased the fish by paying the hefty amount.
The gigantic fish preserved in an ice container was dispatched today to Chennai by road. It is the most expensive fish to be caught along the Dhamra coast, said representatives of Dhamra fisheries harbour.
The group of six fishermen who netted the fish donated Rs one lakh for charitable cause for the development of fishermen community here. The rest of the amount was shared by them.
