Berhampur, June 28 (LocalWire): The SHE team was today launched at Paralakhemundi in Gajapati district with an aim to provide safety and security to women in the headquarter town of the district.
State high court judge RK Mohapatra flagged off the vehicles of the patrolling team.
The SHE team will comprise of eight police personnel, including four women cops and headed by a woman sub-inspector.
Initially three teams will be constituted and they will patrol the vulnerable areas in two motorbikes and a car, said SP, (Gajapati) Sarah Sharma.
‘They will patrol intensively near schools, colleges, private institutions, temples and other places where young girls and women are harassed by eve teasers, chain-snatchers,’ she said. Initially, this pilot project has been set up in Paralakhemundi and will be extended to other areas after its success, she added.

Since the team will deal with minor girls frequently, they will not be in uniform, she said.
A new dress code – blue jeans and black shirt with loge of the SHE Team Gajapati has been made for them.
In order to create awareness among the people and to build confidence among the women, SP (Gajapati) had lent her voice to the theme song of the SHE Team, which went viral in social media.
‘We hope women will take our help at time of trouble,’ she said.
