Kendrapara, Nov 19 (LocalWire): A 28-year-old man allegedly killed his three family members and seriously injured two others under the influence of alcohol in Kendrapara district, police said on Monday.
Bikram Das was arrested on Sunday for allegedly murdering his grand-father, grand-mother and aunt, and inflicting serious injuries to his parents, a day before at Madhusudanpur village under Marsaghai police station.
“Bikram Das (28) a tractor driver, allegedly killed his grand-father Dhrub Das (73), grand-mother Saraswati Das (67) and paternal aunt Pramila (48) on Saturday night in an inebriated state,” said police sources on Monday.
Das was allegedly assaulting his wife and when his family members tried to stop him, he hit them with a wooden plank, following which they fell unconscious. .
They were rushed to the Kendrapara government hospital where the doctor declared three of then to be brought dead.
“Pratima (53), mother of the accused, had sustained serious head injuries. She is now undergoing treatment in the Srirama Chandra Bhanja Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack,” Kendrapara Sub- Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rajiv Lochan Panda told LocalWire.
“We have filed a case under Section 302 (murder) against the accused. After committing the crime, he had fled from the village. But we managed to arrest him from nearby Aakhua village,” he said.
Meanwhile, social workers are blaming illicit liquor sales behind rising crime in the district.
“Unchecked flow of illicit liquors has led to rise in anti-social activities in our locality. The police have turned a blind eye. And see the result, a drunkard youth has now killed three of his family members,” said Kendrapara social worker Amarbara Biswal.
