Bhubaneswar, October 22 (LocalWire): Two persons were killed and five others seriously injured when an inebriated man went on a stabbing spree in a remote village in Malkangiri district.
The assailant, Bidhan Mirdha (43), was taken into custody and is being interrogated to ascertain the exact motive of the crime, Malkangiri superintendent of police Rishikesh Dnyandeo Khilari said.
The incident happened when a meeting to amicably settle local disputes was going on at MV-33 village under Koimetala gram panchayat in Kalimela police station limits.
There were around 35 people including women who had assembled at the village body, when a drunken assailant came from nowhere and brandished a sharp-edged weapon, triggering the reign of terror.
While people ran to escape from the attack, Mirdha chased to stab them.
The deceased persons were identified as Biswanath Ray (50) and Madhabi Ray (35).
