Paradip, Nov 24 (LocalWire) As part of the Navy Week celebrations, different ships under Eastern Fleet entered Paradip Port on Saturday.
They will remain“Open to Visitors’ for public for two days.
The Eastern Fleet, which has more than 60 ships under its disposal, displayed its firepower as a part of the Navy Week celebrations.
The Indian Navy, with a fleet strength of hundreds warships, has been assigned to co-ordinate coastal security operations across the country post 26/11.
The Indian Navy is also co-coordinating with the marine police of respective states and Indian Coast Guard to see that no more such incidents take place along the 4,700km coastline.
During media interaction, naval officials talked about naval ship INS Sumedha, which is an indigenously developed offshore patrol vessel of Saryu class commissioned at Visakhapatnam in 2014.
The ship is equipped with several weapons, sensors, state-of-art navigation, system and communication, electronic warfare equipment, making it a highly potent platform to take both symmetrical and asymmetrical tasks in the present day theatre of constant war and peace.
This ship is equipped with 76 mm super Rapid Gun Mount which forms the mainstay of Indian naval warships and can fire up to a range of 16 km at a rate of 120 rounds per minute.
She is also equipped with two AK 630 30 mm close range gun which can fire up to a range of 40 to 50 kms at rate of 4000 to 5000 rounds per minute.
This ship is capable of operating a wide range of helos including advanced light helicopter.
Since commissioning, in the last four years the ship has undertaken numerous operational tasks varying from independent deployments to operating with Eastern Fleet.
As part of Navy Week Celebration, navy ships will remain open for visitors at Paradip Port on Saturday and Sunday.
All visitors will be provided a guided tour of the ships.
School children in uniform with their school ID card and accompanied by their staff will be permitted to visit the ships on Sunday.
Entry will be permitted to Indian Nationals only carrying proper valid photo identification cards i.e., Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID Card or Driving License.
