Bhubaneswar, June 5 (LocalWire): Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan is being celebrated with much pomp and show in the state today.
Muslims across the state offered thanksgiving prayers to mark the end of 30 days of fasting.
After offering namaz, they greeted each other with ‘Eid Mubarak’.
People dressed in new clothes were seen hugging each other and distributing sweets in the morning.
Hindus also joined in the celebrations in many parts of the state to mark the day with a show of harmony and brotherhood between the communities.
In the capital, Namaz was offered at several mosques including the Unit 4 masjid where thousands of Muslims gathered for prayers.
In the silver city, Cuttack, grand arrangements have been made to celebrate Eid. Similar scenes were witnessed at Chanbali mosque in Bhadrak, Eidgah mosque in Balasore and Masjid-e-Babujang in Kendrapara also saw Eid being celebrated with much fanfare.
Beginning with prayer and breakfast, the day witnesses Muslims celebrating the festival together with food and pomp.
‘Today we mark Ramzan. It’s a festival of forgiveness and brotherhood.
We pray to Allah for everyone’s happiness,’ said MD Shoaib, a resident of Bhubaneswar.
He further added, ‘We receive Eidi or gifts from the elders in the family. We offer our salutation to elders and then distribute the Eidi.’
Another resident of Bhubaneswar, Afsan Khan, said, ‘We are celebrating with a grand feast of biryani, korma, fruits, dry fruits and enjoying a lot on this holy festival by offering our prayers to Allah.’
Traditionally, Eid-ul-Fitr is known as ‘sweet Eid’ as a large variety of sweet foods and confectionary are eaten on this day.
