Berhampur, May 26 (Localwire): Police on Sunday arrested four family members among eight people for the murder of a 20-year-old man over a love affair with a minor girl in Dahaugaon village of Ganjam district.
The deadly assault took place on Friday night when Alekha Nayak, who’s a medical representative, was beaten up by the girl’s relatives with wooden sticks and iron rods when he visited her home.
Nayak succumbed to his injuries at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital on Saturday. He was shifted to the hospital from a community health centre in Aska on Friday night after his condition deteriorated.
Police said the girl’s parents were opposed to their relationship.
The victim had received multiple injuries in his body.
The girl’s father Maheswar Behera (55), her three brothers Sibaram (25), Judhistira (48) and Chitrasena (35), and their associates Nishakara Behera (23), Achyuta Nahak (37), Govinda Behera (25) and Kalu Behera (37) were arrested on Friday. Earlier, police had detained her father for questioning.
All the accused persons were produced before a local court, said Aska sub-divisional police officer Suryamani Pradhan. He said the deceased was having an affair with the 15-year old girl.
They had planned to meet when no one else was in the house but her relatives got a whiff of his presence and caught them together, Pradhan said.
