Berhampur, Dec 17 (LocalWire) Another tusker was found dead in Ganjam district on Monday.
Forest officials recovered the carcass of a 45-year-old elephant from Tarsingi jungle under Ghumusara North division.
The old elephant, which was roaming in the area alone, was suspected to have succumbed to an unknown illness, said Regional Chief Conservator of Forests (RCCF) Berhampur forest circle Suresh Pant.
Post-mortem examination of the elephant was conducted by the local veterinary surgeon.
After autopsy, the elephant’s carcass was buried in the jungle after removing its tusks, he said.
The length of the right and left tusks were 59 and 53-cm respectively, he said.
Earlier on Sunday, forest officials have recovered carcass of a nine-year-old elephant on the outskirts of Meghajholi under Digaphandi forest range in Berhampur forest division. The elephant died in a fight with another tusker, said RCCF.
