Dhenkanal, November 5 (LocalWire): A wild elephant gored to death a 50-year-old man on Tuesday morning in a forest-side village of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.
The incident occurred during the wee hours today in the Godarpalli forest area under Kamakhyanagar forest range of the Dhenkanal forest division.
The victim Hrudanand Malick had entered into the forest area to collect minor forest produce when the tusker came from nowhere and trampled him to death, forest officials said.
The village, where the tragic death was reported, is close to elephants’ habitation and the animal often strays into the village in search of food, which leads to the frequent outbreak of man-elephant conflict.
The next-of-kin of the bereaved family will be provided ex-gratia financial aid of Rs 4 lakh as per rule for human death due to attack by protected animals, forest officials said.
