Bhubaneswar, March 24 (LocalWire): In a major embarrassment for the ruling party, Rishabh Nanda, son of BJD Rajya Sabha member Prashanta Nanda, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Sources said that Rishabh may have quit BJD after all efforts to get a party ticket from Begunia failed.
He, though, said he joined BJP after being driven by ideals of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP national vice-president Baijayant Panda and state president Basant Panda, among other BJP leaders, were present during his induction ceremony here on Thursday.
On Saturday, the regional party accused BJP of violating the model code of conduct for using its leader Baijayant Panda’s campaign vehicle in Kendrapada without permission from the chief electoral officer.
BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra also alleged that no action has been taken so far against BJP over the fake intelligence letter, which tried to tarnish the image of the ruling party.
He said that hoardings of Centre’s Ujjwala scheme have been put up illegally in various locations.
