Berhampur, Jan 4 (LocalWire) The Ganjam district administration on Friday closed an English medium public school at Lanjipalli for allegedly violating the provisions of Odisha Development Act (ODA) -1982 and guidelines of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
“Modern Oxford School was closed for violating the provisions of ODA and norms of the Central government,” said Berhampur sub collector Diganta Routray.
“Besides, the school is located beside National Highway (NH)-16m which is against the rule of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. There is always a threat for the safety of students,” he said.
A notice has also issued to the students, parents and general public in this regard.
The school building was not approved by the Berhampur Development Authority (BeDA), which violated the ODA, said Routray.
The school has around 700 students from Class 1 to X.
District Education Officer (DEO) Sanatan Panda has already issued the show cause notice to the school authorities for running the school in a building, whose plan has not been approved by the BeDA.
The DEO also asked the school authorities to shift it to another building that fulfills all legal formalities.
The school authorities were not available to comment on the issue.
Some of the parents, however reacted, over the district administration’s decision to close down the school.
“Examinations are round the corner. Students will be having a difficult time,” said a parent on condition of anonymity.
