Bhubaneswar, Nov 27 (LocalWire) Former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Aparajita Sarangi joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday.
She was inducted into the party during a program held at BJP president Amit Shah’s residence in New Delhi, in presence of senior leaders like Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Odisha BJP unit president Basant Panda and state in-charge Arun Singh.
“In the last 5 years, I got the opportunity to witness how Prime Minister Narendra Modi works so hard for India’s development. That influenced me to join his party,” Sarangi told reporters.
According to reports, Sarangi will return to Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
Earlier, BJP leader Biswabhusan Harichandan had told media that Sarngi will contest from Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha seat during the upcoming assembly elections.
On Sept 15, Sarangi, a 1994-batch Odisha cadre officer, applied for Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) from her post as Joint Secretary (MGNREGA), Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.
On Nov 14, the Odisha government accepted her request for VRS.
